Opportunities for Volunteers

CREST Victoria is fortunate to be supported by a team of dedicated volunteers who provide valuable assistance to the wider community. Our volunteers enhance our programs, activities and culture by using their skills and experience to provide emergency support services when they are most needed.  We also have a dedicated team of associate members who assist with many tasks, but are not required to monitor the emergency frequencies.

We are grateful to our volunteers who give their time so generously to support our community. While our volunteers come from all walks of life and perform different roles, there is a common purpose and understanding to their work – and that is to help make a difference to the lives of others.

Volunteer today

We are always looking for volunteers to join our committed team. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator on 0409 949 372 or complete the on-line application form.
I am looking to volunteer as part of my Centre Link mutual obligation requirements.
Can I join CREST for that purpose?
Yes absolutely.  CREST Victoria already has a number of folk who have joined for this reason.  They are able to perform a minimum of 15 hours per week monitoring the emergency frequencies from their home.  All equipment is supplied for a cost of $5 per year.  Help with setting up your monitoring station is readerly available.  As a volunteer you will be trained in using radio equipment and speaking on the air-waves. No prior knowledge is required, however a keenness to serve the community through communications is essential.

I have limited mobility — can I still volunteer with CREST?
Yes certainly.  People with disabilities or chronic health conditions can volunteer.  There are many CREST activities, but if you find it hard to leave your home you can still play a vital role within the organisation.

Whether due to a disability, a lack of transportation, or time constraints, many people choose to volunteer with CREST.  We help all members to obtain suitable radio equipment to become an active Communications Officer, monitoring the emergency frequencies.  We can assist you with installation of the necessary equipment and training.  No need to worry about the cost of the equipment - talk with one of our CREST team to understand how we provide the equipment needed.  CREST can provide you with home-based training, so people without any technical knowledge can quickly become a proficient radio user.

Other volunteer tasks
In today’s digital age, CREST needs help with writing, graphic design, email, and other web-based tasks. If you have a particular skill you would like to share, CREST would love to speak with you to see how we could utilise your skills.

During a crisis our field teams need support also.  You may not be a technical person, but CREST needs people with a variety of support skills to keep us up and running.  While volunteering with CREST, you will quickly find opportunities that provide you with chance to explore your creativity and keep you mentally stimulated, adding more zest to your life while helping others at the same time!

Getting Involved

CREST Victoria is a not-for-profit organisation. We rely on community support to supplement the many support services we provide back to the community. We are committed to services that enable all those with communications support needs, to receive reliable, accurate, and meaningful communications in the fastest time possible.

Did you know that there are many times when standard communications devices such as mobile phone technology just doesn't work as required during an emergency?  In fact, now more than ever, we rely on people just like you, to help ensure that others in all locations can access the emergency support required to meet their needs.

With your help, we can make a difference.
When everything else fails, radio communications continue...
